Evolution School of Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training - begins October 2019!

As Program Coordinator of the Evolution School of Yoga Teacher Training I have worked closely with the co-lead trainers to develop this unique program and bring the mission and vision to life. The program launches this month and the first-ever Evolution YTT student cohort full of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, mental health professionals, bodyworkers, and folks interested in related fields will discover personal and professional transformation. I’ll be co-leading Teaching Methodology sections and offering a Yoga for Trauma elective. Read below for the course description and check out the website for more information about this Yoga Alliance-certified training!

“Evolution’s 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) is designed to educate health and wellness professionals, or those studying, or interested in working in a health and wellness field.  Through this program, students will learn the art and science of teaching yoga, in order to be able to facilitate private, small group, and community yoga sessions. This therapeutically oriented training is rooted in ancient and modern practices of yoga, that integrates mind, body, and spirit.”

CSSW Online Campus Fall 2018

I was on maternity leave during Fall 2017 semester and took time away from teaching one of my favorite courses, Advanced Clinical Practice in Health, Mental Health, and Disabilities. I’m thrilled to be back this semester to offer this course to second year graduate students at Columbia University School of Social Work’s Online Campus! This is a jam-packed course that explores nuances and underpinnings of clinical social work practice with diverse populations and we pay particular attention to professional use of self and self-care. It’s an honor to learn with these budding social work professionals - dive in and dive deep!

Yoga for Trauma on March 17th

Join Bonnie for a Yoga for Trauma workshop at Evolution PT & Yoga on March 17th at 1 pm - 3 pm. Register here!

Current research shows that yoga practices are integral to moving forward beyond trauma. In this six-week series, we will discover how grounding and centering mindfulness practices, simple breathing exercises, and gentle movements can provide a space for the the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies to release and heal. These practices can then be integrated into daily life in an effort to manage and navigate physical, emotional, and spiritual responses to trauma. This series offers a reminder that we can find a healthy sense of control in the moment, that we have our breath with us all of the time, and that we can set healthy boundaries in order to feel safe in any space.

What: Yoga for Self-Care workshop

Where: Evolution PT & Yoga

In the midst of hectic personal and professional lives it can be difficult to find time to practice self-care. But, creating time and space to take care of oneself before attending to everything else can reduce emotional stress and physical discomfort while simultaneously enhancing focus, creativity, and balance. This workshop will alow for discussion and practice to explore the challenges and benefits to discovering Yoga for Self-Care.

Self-care Yoga for UVM Social Work Staff

I talk and write about it often - self-care is an imperative piece of the puzzle for the helping professional. And I'm not alone! More and more agencies, organizations, and institutions are jumping on the self-care wagon.

This week I will support the Social Work staff at The University of Vermont's Connecting Cultures & New England Survivors of Torture & Trauma program, offering a yoga flow geared towards de-stress and restoration.

I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent.

Caring for myself is an act of survival.

Self-Care Day 2016 @ CSSW

It is no small feat for a helping professional to find time to practice self-care and prioritize cultivating a healthy work-life balance. Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) provides a framework for graduate students to explore this very important - yet often overlooked - professional development skill. I am honored to participate in this day for the 3rd year in a row. This year, my workshop "Creating a self-care practice to take with you, wherever you go..." will be available to attend in-person or via live streaming. Looking forward to practicing with you!

Now on Columbia School of Social Work's Online Campus...

Now in Burlington, Vermont

After spending time in Costa Rica, I transitioned through NYC and landed in Vermont. I've opened myself up to opportunities in the Green Mountain State and am connecting with health care providers, educators, community organizations and others in the social work, figure skating, and yoga worlds. After 15 years of life in NYC I can't let go of that city too easily, and I'm excited to cultivate a Vermont-NYC balance!

The Yoga Farm Costa Rica

View from bed, time to get up.

Many moons ago, I sat on a stoop in Stowe, Vermont and someone said to me, "You are going to live at The Yoga Farm in Costa Rica." And I said, "What is The Yoga Farm in Costa RIca?!" Several years and a lot of patience later, I landed in this magical space. I traveled solo to remote and rustic Punta Banco, Costa Rica to volunteer for the month of May at The Yoga Farm - a sustainable living community in the jungle by the ocean. I gratefully immersed into a very different-than-NYC pace of life to live off the land, take care of a farm, practice yoga, surf ocean waves, love fellow dirty, sweaty volunteers and guests, and disconnect from the hustle and bustle life I know too well. It was challenging, humbling and inspiring. Stay tuned for more reads on how this journey has inspired next endeavors.

Self-Care Day at Columbia University School of Social Work

Promoting self-care in the social work profession is a topic that I am most passionate about. I have experienced vicarious trauma and burn-out in my social work career and I found self-care practices such as yoga, meditation, athletics and creative arts to be necessary tools for me to find sustainability and healing. I am thrilled to participate in Columbia University School of Social Work's Self-Care Day again this year by offering a workshop titled Creating A Vision Board. This workshop invites participants to engage in gentle seated yoga and meditation in order to cultivate a vision for his/her social work career. Participants then use creative arts to bring that vision to life!
